During a walk in the forest near my house, I discovered an abandoned hut. Inside, among scattered belongings, I felt as though the inhabitant could appear at any moment. Later, I learned the story that someone had lived in that hut but had passed away.
This story made me go back to the hut and initiate an investigation, much like a detective. This led to the creation of my art installation “Geruisloos Nabeeld." In this art installation, I employed various mediums such as painting with pigments, photography, and the folding of Joss paper.
I find inspiration in the layers of life. The man who lived in the hut, led a secluded life centered around collecting various items. These items created various layers which intertwined with nature. I seek a similar layered complexity in my work: the interface where culture and nature meet.
I tell stories which are based on my research. In my investigation, I examine the subject from various perspectives, creating a new narrative. Themes of ‘visibility, sharing vulnerability, paying attention to one another, and connection with each other’ often recur in this process.
Inspired by cultures and different ways of living, I frequently use existing creations, merging them into a new project. As an example I draw inspiration from books on folk art, Asian art, and modern art.
With a background in spatial design, my work translates into multidimensional creations, often resulting in art installations and sculptures. For instance, I designed a hexagonal stone in plaster with which I built a sculpture. During this project I collaborated with the audience of a creative hub in Nijmegen (Hubert). During the "Ponton" festival, I conducted a workshop on painting with pigments, where we painted the hexagonal stone, resulting in the final sculpture.
I am exploring new ways to initiate a project where I open my work for people to collaborate and create art together.
I also work as an assistant for various artists myself. Through this experience, I have learned how special it can be to work with other artists, which, for me, feels like a different form of communication. Having a shared goal of creating art creates a special connection.

Tijdens een boswandeling ontdekte ik een verlaten boshut. Binnen, te midden van verspreide spullen, bekroop me het gevoel dat elk moment de bewoner kon verschijnen. Later kwam het verhaal tot me dat er iemand in die hut heeft gewoond maar is overleden.
Dit verhaal was voor mij de aanleiding om terug te gaan naar de hut en als een detective een onderzoek te starten. Hieruit is mijn kunst installatie “Geruisloos Nabeeld” ontstaan. In deze kunstinstallatie heb ik verschillende mediums toegepast zoals schilderen met pigmenten, fotografie en het vouwen van Joss papier.
Ik raak geïnspireerd door de gelaagdheid van levens. Deze man in de hut heeft een afgezonderd leven geleid waarbij het verzamelen van allerlei soorten spullen centraal stond. Er verschenen lagen met spullen waarbij ook delen vergroeid waren met de natuur. Naar die gelaagdheid ben ik ook opzoek in mijn werk: het grensvlak waar cultuur en natuur samen komen.
Ik vertel een verhaal wat is ontstaan vanuit een onderzoek. In het onderzoek bekijk ik het onderwerp vanuit verschillende perspectieven, daaruit creëer ik een nieuw verhaal. Hierin komen vaak thema’s terug zoals: zichtbaarheid, kwetsbaarheid, aandacht en verbinding.
Omdat ik geïnspireerd raak door culturen en verschillende vormen van leven, werk ik vaak door op al bestaande creaties die ik samen voeg tot een nieuw geheel. Zo haal ik veel inspiratie uit boeken over volkskunst, Aziatische kunst en moderne kunst.
Ik heb een achtergrond in ruimtelijk vormgeven waardoor mijn werk multidimensionale creaties omvat, vaak resulterend in kunstinstallaties en sculpturen. Zo heb ik een zeshoekige steen ontworpen van gips waarmee ik een sculptuur heb gebouwd. Dit sculptuur heb ik samen gemaakt met het publiek van een creatieve broedplaats in Nijmegen (Hubert). Tijdens het festival “Ponton” heb ik een workshop gegeven in het schilderen met pigmenten waarmee we de zeshoekige steen hebben beschilderd. Dit is later samen gekomen tot een sculptuur. Het samen werken aan kunst is iets wat ik in nieuw werk ook terug wil laten komen. Ik werk zelf ook als assistent voor verschillende kunstenaars waarbij ik ervaar hoe bijzonder het is om samen te werken aan een kunstwerk, het voelt voor mij als een andere manier van communiceren. Je hebt samen een doel en dat is het kunstwerk maken waardoor en ruimte ontstaat voor een andere vorm van verbinding.
